a prayer for step-parents

sent to me by my mom on mother's day. the text comes from the newspaper The Forward.

You showed us how great is the merit to bring up stepchildren and to treat them kindly. This merit is much greater that that of bringing up your own children, because the attachment that you have for your own children is natural; all animals have it. The hen raises her own chicks, but she has no instinct to care for strange chicks, so she pecks at the stranger and chases it away. Raising stepchildren is a holy task. It shows a higher human feeling, one that is higher than that of any other living creature...

belated happy mother's day to all types of moms.

vibrant green, humidity
filtered light through wooded haze
the heavy, heady smell of honelysuckle and wild rose
late spring in the south.

the fabulous blog - part deux

In 2007 I created a blog. Mostly to record the thrills and spills (more spills, really, than thrills) of my pseudo-career as an amature mountain bike racer.

But life has a funny way of interfering with amature racing careers and there's not much mountain bike racing going on for me these days. So, in fairness to the bandwith of MTBR, I am moving my blog to a non-mountain biking location.

Enjoy.
